Exchange Rate History

Track reference exchange rate trends over time with interactive charts and analysis.

Date range

About this tool

A rate history chart answers a specific question: how did the Cambodian riel reference value of a selected currency move between two dates? This page plots the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) bulletin average, normalized to KHR per one unit of the foreign currency, so a USD line and a VND line use the same unit convention. Choose up to six currencies and a period to inspect the recorded observations together. The available-date controls follow the history dataset's first and latest dates; they do not promise a quote for every calendar day. This view can help a Cambodian bookkeeper review past reference values, a student study currency movements, or a traveler put an older budget in context. It is a historical record, not a live counter quote: a bank or money changer will quote differently. The chart describes recorded observations and cannot explain why a rate moved. A short rise or fall over two weeks is only a movement in this dataset, not a reliable signal about what comes next. This tool is not investment advice and does not forecast exchange rates.

How it works

The history endpoint returns one series per currency and one point for each stored NBC bulletin date. The plotted value is the bulletin average divided by its quoted unit, giving KHR per one unit; it is not a bid, ask, market midpoint, or mean calculated across days. The initial period is the latest 90 days, bounded by the API's availableDateRange, and the date controls cannot extend the query beyond that stored range. The chart joins observed dates, so a line has no point for an unobserved day. Weekends and Cambodian public holidays commonly have no daily bulletin; a missing observation can also mean no bulletin was available in the stored history. The summary's average is the arithmetic mean of the plotted points, while change compares the first and last observed values in the selected period. Use a longer window to see more context, but remember that sparse dates do not become daily quotes. Download CSV to keep the selected history and summary figures for bookkeeping; exported observations remain reference data.

Use cases

  • A Cambodian bookkeeper can review recorded reference values when checking a past invoice or internal ledger entry.
  • A small importer can compare the riel reference value for supplier currencies across the dates in an order period.
  • A student can use the chart to describe observed currency movements in a Cambodia-focused economics assignment.
  • A traveler can compare a planned trip month with later reference observations when reviewing an old travel budget.
  • A finance team can download the selected observations as CSV and retain them with a dated reconciliation file.

Frequently asked questions

  • What does the history chart plot?

Each point is the NBC bulletin average for a currency, divided by the bulletin unit and expressed as Cambodian riel per one unit. The page does not average rates across the selected period to draw the line. Summary statistics are calculated separately from the points returned for that period.

  • Why are some dates missing from a currency line?

The history is built from dated bulletins rather than a generated daily series. NBC may not publish a daily bulletin on weekends or Cambodian public holidays, and a date can also be absent when no bulletin was available in the stored history. A gap therefore means there is no plotted observation for that date, not a zero rate.

  • Can I select dates outside the controls?

The selectable period is limited to the first and latest dates reported by the history API. Those dates describe the observations currently available in the dataset and may change as stored history is updated. Selecting a wider calendar span does not create missing bulletins or extend the underlying record.

  • Is this the rate my bank or money changer will give me?

No. These are NBC reference rates reproduced from the bulletin, not traded rates or a promise of a retail transaction price. Banks and money changers set their own buying and selling quotes and may include a spread or other charges. Check the provider you plan to use for its current quote.

  • Does a two-week move predict the next exchange rate?

No. The chart only displays past observations in the selected window. A short rise or fall can be affected by many events and is not a forecast or a dependable basis for a future rate. The tool makes no prediction and provides no investment advice.

  • Can I use the CSV as a bookkeeping record?

You can download the displayed history as CSV and keep it with your working records. It is a convenient copy of the observations and selected period, but it remains a mirror of reference data. For a filing, audit, contract, or dispute that requires an authoritative record, verify the relevant bulletin with NBC.

Data and accuracy

The series comes from NBC daily exchange-rate bulletin history delivered through azwebdata and stored for this tool. New observations depend on bulletin publication and ingestion; weekends, Cambodian public holidays, delayed bulletins, or ingestion gaps can leave dates without a point. These are NBC reference rates, not traded rates. Banks and money changers may quote differently.
