Dates and the clock follow the Cambodia time zone (UTC+7). The holiday list covers 2025–2027 and is not the official sub-decree list; the lunar day is approximate. Weather is a current snapshot, not a forecast.

About this tool

This page answers the small morning question — what day is it, really — for someone in Cambodia. It shows today’s Gregorian date and weekday with the current time in the Asia/Phnom_Penh zone, the Khmer lunar day underneath (for example ១៤ កើត, the fourteenth waxing), any public holidays that fall on today’s date, and the current weather for a city picked from a short list. It is built for the glance before deciding: whether the office is open, whether it is a holy day, whether to carry rain gear. The view is a composition of data the site already publishes — the holiday dataset, the lunar calendar conversion and the weather feed — not a new source. It does not forecast tomorrow’s weather, does not cover holidays outside the 2025–2027 dataset, does not name the lunar month, and cannot remind you of anything: nothing is stored, no account exists, and the chosen city only lives in the page URL.

How it works

`TodayClient` in `today-client.tsx` stores a `Date` and refreshes it once a second, the same ticking pattern as `current-time-cambodia-client.tsx`. The Gregorian line comes from `formatDateCambodia` and `formatTimeCambodia` in `format-date-time-khmer.ts`, which apply `Intl.DateTimeFormat` with `CAMBODIA_TZ`, and the weekday index comes from `getWeekdayInTz` mapped to localized names. The page resolves today’s ISO date with `Intl.DateTimeFormat` in the Cambodia zone, then matches it against entries produced by `getHolidayDateEntriesForYear` in `cambodia-holidays-data.ts` — one entry per day, so every day of a multi-day festival counts; the next holiday is the first entry after today. The lunar line is `getLunarDayLabel` in `format-lunar-date.ts`, a Chhankitek conversion from the `khmercal` package returning day plus waxing or waning phase only. The weather card is `WeatherPlaceholderCard`, which calls `useWeather` in `use-weather.ts` against `v1/weather/current?q=` — the identical request the weather city pages make — for the province chosen in the picker.

Use cases

  • Checking at 7am whether government offices and banks are open before making the trip across town
  • Reading the Khmer lunar day for a bon ceremony or monk offering without opening the full calendar
  • Seeing whether Pchum Ben or Khmer New Year continues today during a multi-day festival stretch
  • Glancing at the current weather in Phnom Penh or a home province before leaving for work
  • Confirming the date and time in Cambodia when calling family from another time zone
  • Finding the next public holiday after today without scrolling a full-year table

Frequently asked questions

  • Why does the page sometimes show a different day than my phone?

The page resolves "today" in the Asia/Phnom_Penh zone, not in your device’s zone. When it is 22:00 in London it is already 05:00 the next morning in Cambodia, so the date, the lunar day and the holiday list all move to tomorrow while your phone still shows yesterday evening. That is intentional: the tool reports the day as it stands in Cambodia, and the time line shows which instant both readings share.

  • Is this holiday list the official government calendar?

No. The list is the inkhmer.com dataset in `cambodia-holidays-data.ts`, which covers 2025, 2026 and 2027 and is not yet reconciled with the annual sub-decrees. It includes Chinese New Year, Meak Bochea, International Children’s Day and International Human Rights Day, and it omits Visak Bochea, the Royal Ploughing Ceremony and Peace Day. A day can therefore be marked here without being a public holiday, or a real public holiday can be missing.

  • How exact is the Khmer lunar day shown?

It is the same Chhankitek-style approximation the lunar calendar page uses, computed by the `khmercal` library. The label gives the lunar day number and the waxing (កើត) or waning (រោច) phase only — not the lunar month name, zodiac year or Buddhist Era. Treat it as an everyday reference for ceremonies, not as an authoritative religious calendar; a pagoda’s own calendar can differ by a day.

  • Does the weather block forecast today or tomorrow?

No. It shows the current snapshot for the selected city, fetched through `v1/weather/current`, whose upstream is azwebdata’s hourly pull from a self-hosted Open-Meteo instance. The forecast endpoint returns an empty forecast-day array today, so nothing ahead is drawn. For planning, treat the card as "what it is doing now", not "what it will do", and check the observation time printed on the card for staleness.

  • Which cities can I pick for the weather?

The five provinces that have their own weather pages: Phnom Penh (the default), Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, Battambang and Kampot. Other provinces are not offered because the weather tool set does not cover them; the Cambodia overview page compares the same five. The choice goes into the `?city=` URL parameter, so a bookmarked link reopens on the same city.

  • Does the page remember my city or store anything about me?

Nothing is stored on a server and there is no account. The selected city is written into the `city` query parameter of the URL — you can bookmark or share it — and that is the only persistence. The clock reads your device, the holiday check runs against a bundled list, and only the weather card makes a network request, once, when the city is chosen or the page loads.

  • Why is a festival counted as a holiday on every day it runs?

Multi-day festivals are expanded to one entry per day before matching, so the second day of Khmer New Year counts as a holiday just like the first. That matches the holiday dataset, which stores ranges such as "14–16 April" and "10–12 October". A festival’s last day is still a holiday here even though the countdown tool only points at the first day.

Data and accuracy

Holiday entries come from `getHolidayDateEntriesForYear` in `cambodia-holidays-data.ts`, the inkhmer.com dataset for 2025, 2026 and 2027, which is not yet reconciled with the annual sub-decrees; the reference dates are set by Sub-Decree No. 204/24 OrNKr/BK for 2025, No. 167 OrNKr/BK for 2026 and No. 198 ANKr.BK for 2027. The lunar day is computed by `khmercal` (Chhankitek) and is approximate by design. Weather is requested at view time through InKhmer’s `v1/weather/current` endpoint backed by azwebdata’s hourly pull from self-hosted Open-Meteo — a snapshot, not a forecast. The clock and date are the device clock formatted with `Intl.DateTimeFormat` in `Asia/Phnom_Penh`. Content reviewed on 8 November 2026.
