Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia, situated at the confluence of the Tonlé Sap and Mekong rivers. The city has been the national capital since the mid-19th century and is the country's political, economic, and cultural centre. Its location in the central lowlands gives it a typical tropical savanna climate with two main seasons: a wet season from May to October and a dry season from November to April. Temperatures in Phnom Penh are high year-round. Average daily maxima usually range from the low 30s °C in the wet season to the mid-30s °C in the hot, dry months (March–May). The dry season is sunnier and less humid, with December to February often feeling relatively comfortable.
