Check weather across Cambodia: the capital, the Gulf of Thailand coast, and provincial cities.
Sihanoukville (also known as Kampong Saom) is a coastal city in southwest Cambodia on the Gulf of Thailand and the capital of Preah Sihanouk Province. It is the country's main deep-water port and a major seaside and island tourism destination. The climate is tropical monsoon, with more rain and higher humidity than most inland Cambodian cities. The city has two main seasons: a wet season from April to November and a relatively dry season from December to March. Total annual rainfall is high, often around 2,200 mm or more, with the heaviest rain in July, August, and September. Mean temperatures are typically in the low 30s °C by day and the mid-20s °C at night, with humidity often above 90% in the wet season. May is usually the warmest month; January is the coolest, with nights sometimes dropping below 20 °C. The coast is on the eastern edge of the south-west monsoon, so tropical storms only rarely affect Cambodia directly. Sea breezes can make the waterfront feel slightly cooler than inland. Checking the weather in Sihanoukville is useful for beach trips, boat trips to islands such as Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem, and port-related travel.
