Check weather across Cambodia: the capital, the Gulf of Thailand coast, and provincial cities.
Battambang is the capital of Battambang Province and Cambodia's third-largest city. It lies in the northwest on the Sangkae River, in a fertile region often called the country's rice bowl. The city has a tropical savanna climate with a clear wet season (May–October) and dry season (November–April). Temperatures are high year-round, typical of the Cambodian lowlands. The wet season brings regular rain and high humidity as the southwest monsoon moves across the region. The dry season is sunnier and less humid, with December to February often the most comfortable. March to May is usually the hottest period before the rains break. The area's rainfall is moderate compared with the coastal southwest; Battambang is inland and not in the wettest monsoon belt. Weather is important for agriculture, river transport, and tourism—including the nearby bamboo train and Phnom Sampeau.
