Cambodia Receipt Generator (2026)

Write a Khmer-first receipt PDF for the counter: amount received in figures and in words, change or the balance still outstanding, and an 80 mm thermal roll or A5 output. Drafts stay in your browser — the document is sent once to render, then forgotten.

Start with a blank receipt or load a sample.

A receipt evidences that payment was received. It is not a tax invoice and does not show that tax was paid.

A receipt prints on an 80 mm thermal roll or A5. On a phone the thermal roll is selected for you.

Example preview — start typing and it becomes your receipt.

  • • Add the issuer name
  • • Describe each line
  • • Enter the amount received

Your draft stays in this browser. The document is sent once to render the PDF — the server stores nothing.

About this tool

A receipt is the document a Cambodian business issues most often. A shop, café, landlord, clinic, school or garage hands one over every day, and the incumbent it replaces is a carbon-copy book, not accounting software. That shapes what the document has to be. It is printed at the counter, usually on an 80 mm thermal roll, usually in one colour, and usually handed over before the customer leaves. The figure that matters most is the amount received — and in a cash-heavy, dual-currency economy that is very often the riel figure, even when the price was agreed in dollars. This generator is built for that setting rather than for the invoice workflow: it defaults to the compact Psar template, offers the thermal roll and A5, prints the amount received in figures and in words in both Khmer and English, and shows change or the balance still outstanding. A receipt evidences that payment was received; it is not a tax invoice, and the PDF says so in both languages. Drafts stay in your browser and nothing is stored.

How it works

You enter the issuer once — legal name in Khmer and English, address, phone, optional logo — then the payer, the receipt number and the date. The lines describe what was paid for, with quantity, unit and unit price; a shop that sells one thing can leave a single line. The payment block is the part that matters: amount received, method (cash, bank transfer or KHQR), an optional purpose, an optional invoice reference, and a payment reference such as a transfer slip number. The arithmetic is the shared document engine, not a second implementation: line totals, any discount, and the grand total come from `computeTotals`, which works in integer minor units rather than floating point. When the amount received covers the total the engine emits the change and the receipt is stamped PAID; when it falls short it emits the outstanding balance and no PAID marker, so a part-paid sale can never print as settled. The amount in words is produced by the same Khmer number helper the other document tools use, following Khmer number naming rather than transliterating digits, and both the Khmer and English wording are printed. A dollar receipt also prints the riel total at the National Bank of Cambodia daily rate, resolved by the server when the PDF is rendered. The 80 mm layout is monochrome by rule, not by preference: thermal printers have no greyscale, so any tint would print as a black smear.

Use cases

  • A neighbourhood shop issuing a receipt for a cash sale and counting the change back
  • A café or restaurant printing a thermal receipt at the counter for a KHQR payment
  • A landlord receiving one month of rent and giving the tenant a receipt in Khmer
  • A clinic collecting a consultation fee and recording the balance a patient still owes
  • A school or tuition class receiving a term fee and referencing the invoice it settles
  • A garage or repair shop taking a deposit and issuing a part-payment receipt
  • A small business replacing a handwritten carbon-copy receipt book

Frequently asked questions

  • Is a receipt the same as a tax invoice in Cambodia?

No, and the difference matters. A receipt evidences that payment was received: it says money changed hands, how much and for what. A tax invoice is a statutory document with fields and numbering rules set by Prakas 723, and it is what supports a VAT input credit. A receipt does not show that tax was paid and cannot stand in for a tax invoice. This tool prints that distinction on the document itself, in Khmer and English, so the paper cannot be mistaken for something it is not.

  • Does a receipt prove that tax was paid?

No. A receipt proves that money was received — the amount, the payer, the date and what the payment was for. It does not show that VAT or any other tax was charged, collected or remitted to the General Department of Taxation, and it cannot support a VAT input credit. A tax invoice is the document that does that: Prakas 723 sets its fields, including the TINs and the tax breakdown. If a customer needs proof that tax was paid, a receipt alone will not give it to them. Every receipt this tool prints says so in both languages.

  • Does a receipt need a buyer TIN?

No. The TIN rules in Prakas 723 belong to the tax invoice; a receipt is not that document, so nothing requires a payer TIN on it. The payer block is optional as a whole: for a counter sale you can leave the name empty and the receipt still prints and downloads. The issuer block is the one the tool requires, because a receipt with no seller identifies nobody. If a customer needs their TIN on the paper, they need a tax invoice — that is the document that carries it.

  • Does a receipt have to be issued in Khmer?

The Khmer-first rules in Prakas 723 govern tax invoices, not receipts, so a receipt is not bound by them. In practice a Cambodian customer expects to read it in Khmer, and many businesses print both languages. The tool defaults to bilingual output, Khmer first with English beneath, and every field can be typed in both languages. If your customers only read one language you can render the receipt in that language alone.

  • Can I issue a receipt for a partial payment?

Yes, and the tool treats it as a normal state rather than an error. Enter the amount actually received; if it is below the total, the receipt prints the outstanding balance and does not carry the PAID marker, so nobody can mistake a deposit for a settled bill. If the amount is above the total, the engine prints the change. The two figures come from the same money engine the server uses, so the form and the PDF agree.

  • What is the riel figure on a dollar receipt?

It is the total converted at the National Bank of Cambodia daily bulletin rate, with the rate and its date printed on the document. The server resolves the published rate when it renders the PDF, so the printed figure is not a guess from the browser. Notification 4908 sets the riel rounding convention the engine applies. If you price in riel the riel total is simply the document total and no conversion is shown.

  • Will the 80 mm thermal output print correctly on my printer?

The page is sized at 80 mm wide with narrow margins and a 7 pt base font, and the layout is forced to monochrome — no tints, no shading and no reversed blocks — because a thermal printer renders those as solid black. Any 80 mm roll printer that accepts a PDF should produce a legible receipt. Print one test page on your own printer before relying on it at the counter; the legibility of 7 pt Khmer depends on the printer and the paper.

  • What happens to the customer names and amounts I type?

Everything you type stays in your browser while you fill the form and preview the document. When you click Download, the document's contents are sent once to our render service, which turns them into a PDF and sends it back. We do not save the document, we do not keep a copy, and the contents are not written to our logs. Nothing is stored after the PDF is returned.

Data and accuracy

A receipt is not a statutory document, so no tax instrument prescribes its fields and this page does not claim one. Two published rules are used where a figure depends on them: the USD-to-riel total follows the National Bank of Cambodia daily bulletin, resolved by the server at render time, and the riel rounding convention follows Notification 4908 GDT (18 March 2019). The distinction the tool states on every receipt — payment received, not a tax invoice — reflects the invoice rules in Prakas 723, which bind tax invoices rather than receipts. Amounts in words are generated locally from the Khmer number helper; no external service is called.
